You don't have a diet problem.
You have an absorption problem.

Your health is not built on what you eat – it is built on what you absorb. The Bile Refresh by James J Hooper shows you the ten-minute morning habit – two ordinary fibres in warm water – that refreshes the one fluid deciding how much of your food you actually keep.

Sound familiar?

You did everything right. So why do you still feel like this?

You cleaned up your plate. You swapped the packet food for real food. You bought the better oil, and the wild fish, the organic one that cost more. You told yourself it was worth it.

And underneath all of it, you still feel like this. Meals sitting like a brick for half the night. That tired, foggy hour after eating. Tired in a way sleep does not fix and your diet does not explain. The flat, heavy, “running with the handbrake on” feeling.

You blamed yourself. Or your genetics. You decided you must not be doing it well enough. So you pushed harder.

It was not your willpower. Most people who cannot get healthy are doing good work in the wrong place. Wrong theory. Wrong actions. Wrong results.

Your health is not built on what you eat. It is built on what you absorb.

You can put the finest food in the world into your mouth, and if your body cannot take it apart and carry the goodness in, most of it goes straight through you. Your plate is full. Your cells are not.

The big idea

Meet the teaspoon of fluid that decides what your food is worth

The decisive stage of digestion leans on one fluid: bile. Made by your liver, stored in your gallbladder, released when fat arrives. And almost nobody has ever asked you to think about it.

A teaspoon, reused all day

Your working pool of bile is only about a teaspoon, recycled four to twelve times a day. The question is never quantity. It is condition.

Bile drift

Fresh bile is smooth and protective. Recycled round after round and worked over by gut bacteria, it slowly turns harsh – "stale" bile. Once drifted, it is drifted at every single meal.

One fault, a dozen masks

The low, flat, inflamed, running-with-the-handbrake-on feeling that so many people carry may not be a dozen separate illnesses at all. It may be one fault, near the start of your absorption process.

The book

Inside The Bile Refresh

  • Why eating healthy backfires when your digestive factory lacks the fluid chemistry to open up your food.
  • The hidden trigger behind bloating and reflux that standard antacids fail to relieve – a lot of "acid" reflux is not acid at all.
  • Why the most expensive fish oil on the shelf is worthless if the fluid meant to open it has gone stale – and why vitamin D can stay low no matter the dose.
  • How to transition into low-carb or keto without the heaviness, nausea, or digestive crash.
  • The ten-minute morning routine using two common, cheap pantry fibres to escort stale bile out and prompt your liver to brew a fresh batch.
  • The right order to getting healthy – almost everyone runs it backwards. This book is the step nearly everyone skips.

The method

The Ten-Minute Morning

No pills. No powders with anyone's name on them. Just a small morning habit built on two ordinary fibres – psyllium, the sponge, and apple pectin, the partner. The whole trick is the order: gel first, then the trigger.

On waking: a teaspoon of psyllium and half a teaspoon of apple pectin in a big glass of warm water. Drink it promptly.

Wait 20 to 30 minutes. Get on with your morning while the gel forms and takes up position.

Breakfast with a little fat – eggs, butter, avocado, olive oil. The fat triggers your gallbladder to send the old, overnight bile straight into the waiting gel – out it goes, and fresh bile is called in behind it.

Stay safe – the book says this often, and so will this page. Never take psyllium dry, and drink plenty of water. Keep the fibres 2 to 3 hours clear of all medicines and supplements. If you have gallstones, a bile-duct blockage, a gut condition, trouble swallowing, or you are pregnant, check with a professional first. Alarm symptoms – unexplained weight loss, vomiting, black stools – need a doctor, not fibre.

What to expect

A small pool changes fast

Your working bile pool is about a teaspoon, so change can come quickly. Treat these timings as a guide, not a promise.

Days 1–3

Things move more freely. A little wind as the gut adjusts is normal.

Days 4–6

Meals feel lighter. The bricked-up, heavy feeling after eating is usually the first thing to ease.

Weeks 1–2

Gentler shifts in energy, cravings, fog and puffiness. Blood markers move over months, not days.

What it will not do: it is a lever, not an engine. Not a cure, and no rescue for a sugar diet or a medicine you actually need.

Who feels it most

Three people this book was written for

The person who did everything right

Clean plate, good oil, real effort – and still heavy, foggy and tired. Every diet you ever gave up on may have failed for a reason that had nothing to do with the diet.

If they took your gallbladder

Surgery removed the storage tank and the timing, not the bile. The Reset suits this body – the gel catches the constant trickle and the fat trigger restores some rhythm. The professional check first is non-negotiable here.

Before you go keto

Many "keto quitters" did not fail the diet – their bile was never ready for it. Run the Reset for 2 to 4 weeks first, then ease the fat up. Prime the engine, then pour the high-octane fuel.

About the author

I'm James J Hooper

I synthesise metabolic health, practical physiology, and systems thinking into actionable protocols. My first book, How To Grow Out Of Asthma, taught one simple, overlooked mechanism the same way this one does – across a kitchen table, in plain words, with the safety rules said out loud.

I am not selling you anything you have to swallow. There is no pill in these pages, no powder with my name on it, and no supplement waiting for your credit card at the end. I make nothing whether you take this idea or leave it.

What I will promise is smaller than a miracle, and truer: set the first step of digestion right – and setting it right turns out to be cheap and simple – and most people notice the same first sign within a week or two. Meals stop sitting like a brick.
